Q.  Where do I start?
A.  If you're looking for a specific person, start with the Search function at the top right of each page.   You can get more specific with your search options with the Advanced Search function.

If you're not sure who you're looking for, or just want to browse to get started, you may find the Surnames link useful.   Once there, you can select to Show All Surnames, which will sort the list alphabetically.

Q.  What's the easiest way to find my way around?
A.  Once you've clicked on the individual's name you want to view, you will be taken to their information page.   Under their name will be six tabs, each one full of information and different ways to sort it and display the information.

Individual tab:  This is the first tab you'll find yourself on.  There are three display options for this tab, Personal Information, Photos & Histories, and All.  Check out these options to see which one works best for you.

Ancestors tab:  This tab gives a graphical display of the individual's ancestors.  Hover your mouse over the down arrows under the boxes to display more information for that person.  If their ancestor chart is too large to fit on the page displayed, a right arrow will show to the right of the last box shown.  Click on that arrow to display the chart for that individual.   There are also several display options for this tab, Standard, Compact, Box, Text, Ahnentafel, and Photos & Histories.

Descendants tab:  This tab displays a generational outline of this individual's descendants.  Clicking on this symbol next to a name will display a descendancy chart up to that individual, with their box shown in light blue.  Next to a person's spouse, you will see a link for Group Sheet.  This will display information for the family unit with these two people as the parents.  The display options for this tab are Standard or Register Format.

Relationship tab:  This tab allows you to find out how the person you're viewing is related to someone else in the database.   Person 1 is already chosen, but you can change that if you want, then choose person 2.  Hit Calculate, and a chart will display showing the two people you picked in bold print.  The programmer for this software package is working on a version to possibly include a textual description for the relationship as well, like Cousins Twice Removed, etc.  The option to Find Another Relationship is displayed at the top under the Relationship tab.

Timeline tab:  This will display a graphical timeline with the lifespan of the person you are viewing shown as a horizontal bar on the timeline.   You can add four more people to this display and view them all on the same timeline graph.

Suggest tab:  Use this tab if you would like to send an update, correction, comments, etc. about the individual you are viewing.   This will be sent to the webmistress and the information in question will be reviewed and posted on the site.  If you would like to have pictures or documents posted on the site, please email them to Taryn and after review, they will be available online.

Q.  What do the symbols mean?
A.  As you're viewing details for individuals, you will see symbols next to names or locations.  You can hover your mouse over the symbol for a description of what that symbol will show you.  I've given some below with explanations to help you out.  If you come across one that's not listed here, or you can't figure out what it's supposed to do, just let me know.

--  Ancestors Chart:   Anytime you see this symbol, clicking on it will display an Ancestral chart for the person whose name is next to the symbol.

--  Descendants Chart:  This symbol appears when you're viewing the Descendants tab for an individual.  Clicking on this symbol will display a Descendants Chart for the person whose name is next to the symbol.

>  --  Offspring:  This symbol appears to the left of a person's name if that person has offspring.

--  When viewing details for an individual, this symbol appears next to location names.  Clicking on it will show you all the people in the database with events at that location.

Q.  How do I print the displayed information?
A.  Click on the Print link next to this icon on each page under the individual's name.   This will bring up a pop-up window with the information displayed in a printer-friendly format.   Clicking on the Print link displayed in the upper right-hand corner of this window will bring up your printer options, and you can choose how you want your page configured (ie: portrait or landscape view, paper size, etc).   If you can't get this to work right, just email me with the information you need, and I can either email it back to you, or snail mail it if you like.
